Canonical noted that Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating systems had been patched against numerous OpenSSL vulnerabilities.

Ever since OpenSSL has a team of developers working around the clock, numerous problems have been found and corrected. Nothing major like the Heartbleed issue has been found, but some minor fixes are made from time to time.

"Praveen Kariyanahalli, Ivan Fratric and Felix Groebert discovered that OpenSSL incorrectly handled memory when buffering DTLS data. A remote attacker could use this issue to cause OpenSSL to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code," reads the security advisory.

This is just one of the issues that have been found and fixed. For a more detailed description of the problems, you can see Canonical's security notification. Users are advised to upgrade their systems as soon as possible, especially since this is a complicated core component, and it needs a lot of attention.

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes. Users will have to reboot the system in order to complete the upgrade process.

You can also use the terminal to update the system in case you don't want the regular channels. Just enter these commands in a terminal near you:

code
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
