Clement Lefebvre, father of the Linux Mint project, uploaded a few minutes ago, May 16, the Release Candidate version of the upcoming Linux Mint 13 operating system.

Dubbed Maya, Linux Mint 13 RC is based on the recently released Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin). It is powered by Linux kernel 3.2 and comes without the Unity interface, as it uses MATE and Cinnamon desktop environments on separate Live DVDs.

The final release of Linux Mint 13 (Maya) will be available for download at the end of May 2012, and it will be shipped as separate MATE and Cinnamon editions.

Download Linux Mint 13 RC right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
