After having reported on the summary of the Ubuntu Desktop Team meeting that took place on June 2, we're now informing you about the decisions made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team on the same day.

While Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) is still using the Linux 3.19 kernel packages of Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet), the team is working hard these days to make the switch to the 4.0 series of the Linux kernel.

At the moment, they are using the upstream Linux kernel 4.0.4, but tracking of the 4.1 branch continues in the unstable repositories. So, we should expect the switch to Linux kernel 4.0.x for Ubuntu 15.10 by the end of next week.

"We are still tracking the 4.0.x stable series on wily master-next. We remain rebased to 4.0.4 and still sorting DKMS testing. We will continue to shoot for an official upload to Wily in the next few weeks. Tracking of the 4.1 series is taking place in our unstable git repo on kernel.ubuntu.com," says Joseph Salisbury in an email.

We remind you that the first Alpha of the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) flavors will arrive in approximately three weeks from today, on June 25, and the second Alpha of the opt-in flavors is only 8 weeks away, to arrive on July 30.
