Linus Torvalds had the pleasure of announcing today, April 6, the immediate availability for download and testing of the seventh and last RC (Release Candidate) version of upcoming Linux 4.0 kernel, as well as the fact that the final version of Linux kernel 4.0 will be unveiled in two weeks from today, around April 19, 2015.

According to the Mr. Torvalds’ announcement, most of the work in Linux kernel 4.0 Release Candidate 7 is driver updates, especially for networking, GPU, USB, IIO, and Input. There are also various fixes for the x86 architecture, a few networking improvements, a lazytime fix, as well as updated documentation.

“So rc7 is a day late, delayed by Easter dinner. To compensate, it got a few extra fixes,” says Linus Torvalds. “But it's still pretty small, and things are on track for 4.0 next weekend. There's a tiny chance that I'll decide to delay 4.0 by a week just because I'm traveling the week after, and I might want to avoid opening the merge window. We'll see how I feel about it next weekend.”

Linux kernel 4.0 Release Candidate 7 is available for download right now from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia. We remind everyone who wishes to test Linux kernel 4.0 RC7 that this is unstable software and it is not recommended to be installed and used on production machines when stability is very important.
