Cecil Watson, the developer of the LinHES (formerly KnoppMyth) GNU/Linux Live operating system designed especially to be used as a home entertainment system, proudly announced the immediate availability for download of LinHES 8.3 (Lorne Malvo), a release that introduces a new Linux kernel, as well as updated Nvidia drivers and core components.

With the 8.3 release, the LinHES distribution, which is currently based on Arch Linux, finally makes the transition from the deprecated XBMC Media Player to the brand-new Kodi application as the alternative media center, as the MythTV 0.27.4 software is also included. In addition, users can now easily install the Plex Home Theater app.

According to the official announcement, LinHES 8.3 adds a PowerPanel for controlling CyberPower UPS devices, and injects the LinHES Tools entry in the Service Menu. Details about how to upgrade your existing LinHES installation are provided on the release notes page.

Several bugs have been squashed in LinHES 8.3, including the missing screen savers from the XScreenSaver package, missing shared libraries for ZoneMinder application, as well as automatic detection and installation of the Nvidia and Nvidia Legacy video drivers. Download the LinHES 8.3 distribution right now via Softpedia.
