Lightworks, a professional non-linear editing solution built by EditShare LLC and used for mastering videos, will be making an appearance on Linux, in the first quarter of 2013.
Lightworks provides support for most of the currently available formats, such as MXF, Quicktime and AVI containers, with every professional format (ProRes, Avid DNxHD, AVC-Intra, DVCPRO HD, RED R3D, DPX, H.264, XDCAM EX / HD 42).
The software was used as the editing software in high-profile movies such as The King's Speech, Mission Impossible, and Pulp Fiction.
“Before the end of the first quarter of 2013 we will be making the Linux version of Lightworks available as a Public Beta, the same as with the latest Windows Beta. A confirmed date will be announced once we finalize some more improvements,” stated Matt Sandford, the product manager at EditShare LL.
To top off the good news, the Linux version will come with a new licensing scheme that will also be implemented for the Windows version.
