The Document Foundation announces that the first RC version of LibreOffice 4.2.4 has been released and is now available for download.

The developers from The Document Foundation have launched the first Release Candidate for 4.2.x branch and it’s packed with a ton of fixes.

According to the changelog, unwanted char background has been fixed in the numbering char style, the PPTX background images are now importing with the table-name, .doc cropping can now be handled inside groups, it’s now possible to export sheet tab colors to xlsx, the PDF export of cropped SVG is now working correctly, and the default alignment in RTL mode has been fixed.

If you are running an Ubuntu-based operating system, you will be able to get the version of LibreOffice as soon as it hits the PPA. Otherwise, you will have to wait for the maintainers of the LibreOffice package to make it available in the official repositories.

In order to install it, you will need to enter a few commands in a terminal (you will need to be root in order for this to work):

sudo apt-get purge libreoffice-core sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/libreoffice-4-2 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libreoffice

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
