JumpJet Rex, a new 2D platformer developed and published by TreeFortress Games, has been released on Steam and is now available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X platforms.

There are quite a few 2D platformers that Linux users can test and play with on Steam, but JumpJet Rex tries to stay with the basics, and that includes the graphics used. The game features hand-drawn 16-bit graphics and music tunes that are more familiar to gamers that are at least 30 years old.

"Remember when platformers were so tough that people would hurt their hands playing, but feel amazing after getting past a level? Relive those moments with JumpJet Rex’s strenuous platforming challenges and retro boss battles," reads the Steam synopsis.

The levels are full of secret areas that await discovery, players can race against their own ghosts, a co-op mode will be implemented soon, and users will be able to customize their T-Rex characters. The game is still under development and it's in the Early Access Steam program, which means that you can buy it and it's playable, but it's not ready just yet.

The makers of JumpJet Rex also said that pretty much anyone with a PC built after 2004 would be able to run the game with no issues. There is also a 15% price cut for JumpJet Rex that is scheduled to end on January 21.
