Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are two very well-known games in the Star Wars universe, and Activision has just decided to make the code open source, for both of them. The fans have been pushing Activision to let these two games become open source, but they always hit a brick wall because of LucasArts.
LucasArts was the sole decider when it came to anything that remotely had anything to do with Star Wars. And if there was one thing very clear about LucasArts, that’s the fact that they were in the business of making money and nothing would have become open source.
After Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas, the fate of LucasArts was unclear, but the studio was disbanded and, in the same day, Activision decided that it’s time to score some points with the gaming community.
Both project are hosted on SourceForge, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and anyone can download them.
