Starting with today we will introduce new plugins for the Unity interface of the Ubuntu operating system, called Lens and Scopes, that will make your Unity experience much better.

Today, we are introducing the Ubuntu Cities Scope for Unity, a plugin that will allow users to access weather and local time information for various cities around the world.

Unity Cities Scope provides instant information about the local weather forecast, local time, wind speed, and Google Maps location for any city or state typed in the Unity Dash search bar.

To install the Unity Scope Cities plugin in your Ubuntu operating system, open a terminal window (hit the CTRL+ALT+T key combination) and paste the following command lines (one by one, hitting Enter after each one):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:scopes-packagers/ppa

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install unity-lens-utilities unity-scope-cities

You'll have to restart your session after the installation. Be aware that it is available only for Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin).
