GNOME 3.16 is a major release with fantastic new features

The GNOME Project had the pleasure of announcing today, March 25, the release of the highly anticipated GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, a major version of GNOME 3, which includes a great number of new features and improvements that represent six months of hard work.

In numbers, GNOME 3.16 includes 33,525 changes by 1043 authors. Highlights include a revamped notification system integrated in the Calendar apple, overlaid scrollbars for all GNOME apps, better content views in Nautilus, a redesigned Eye of GNOME image viewer, several improvements to GNOME Shell, new artwork and theme, and a Wayland login screen.

“It’s great to see the fantastic results of our hard work, and it goes without saying that this could not be possible without all the effort from great the GNOME community,” says Javier Jardón on behalf of the GNOME Release Team. “I definitely think this is the best GNOME release yet.”
