The new KDE Software compilation has been announced for a few days now, and Kubuntu users can upgrade their KDE desktops to this latest version with a few very simple commands.

Kubuntu 13.10 and Kubuntu 12.04 has been using 4.11 so far and it’s considered to be an LTS release, but the good news is that it’s now possible to update via PPA.

The KDE SC 4.12 improvements are too many to mention, but you can check our original report to see what the novelties are. In order to upgrade, you will need to open a terminal and to have root access. Enter the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

You can also install the KDE 4.12 packages if you don’t have them already. Just replace the last command with this one:

sudo apt-get install kde-standard kubuntu-desktop

You now have KDE SC 4.12.
