It's a lazy kind of flattery, but it's cool nonetheless

Earlier today we determined that the operating system used in one of the latest episodes from the House of Cards TV series was not Ubuntu, although it was pretty similar. As it turns out, House of Cards does take a page out of the Ubuntu OS, literally we might add.

Some of the Ubuntu devs who are watching the show have noticed that some of the code in one of the series is rather familiar and they managed to pinpoint its origin to an old mailing list message named "conntrackd causes kernel panic" that dates from October 2008. That's almost six years ago.

That's actually just a crash report, immortalized with a screenshot. Whoever did the graphics for House of Cards got this particular image and just pasted it. The interesting thing is that in conjunction with the earlier report regarding the usage of the Unity desktop, it might seem that someone from that show is a serious fan.

The only problem is that Unity was introduced back in 2010-2011 (the date depends on the level de denial from the community) and the crash log is from 2008, so there is a little bit of discrepancy. The rest of the graphics is just for show and has no equivalent in reality.

In case you didn't know, House of Cards is an American television political drama on Netflix that stars Kevin Spacey.
