The Grooveshark online music service is officially dead

The Ubuntu Touch platform has a music scope and one of the music sources for that service was Grooveshark, but the service has been shut down. Now Ubuntu developers need to make some adjustments to Ubuntu Touch.

Many users were surprised to see that Grooveshark is going away, but the fact that it was included by default in Ubuntu Touch also complicates facts. It won't be difficult to remove it from Ubuntu Touch, and that will be done with the next update.

"Grooveshark has sadly decided to shut down. There may be alternative services, but the Grooveshark scope and its inclusion in the aggregate Music scope should probably be removed," said Victor Thompson on the official mailing list.

Grooveshark has been around for a long time, and it's said to see this service go away. They had many problems with the music industry, and it all boils down to the act that they didn't have a great relationship with copyright holders. Fortunately, there are many other music providers in the online world, so it's likely that Ubuntu Touch will choose to integrate some of those.

It's also quite possible that services like Spotify, for example, will choose to have its scope so that the default music scope won't be as important as before.
