GoboLinux, a modular Linux distribution that organizes programs in the system in a new, logical way, has just reached version 015 Beta2.

Most of the Linux distributions out there organize the folders in the same way, but the GoboLinux developers are thinking about making some changes. For example, users would see folders like Programs, Users, System Files, Mount, and Depot when listing inside a terminal or in a file manager.

“I am pleased to announce the 2nd beta snapshot of GoboLinux 015 for i686. Thanks to your feedback and to numerous hours shaping it, this release is more mature and smooth,” said GoboLinux developer Lucas C. Villa Real.

As you can see from the version number, the developers have been releasing updates for quite some time and this latest one introduces some interesting features. For example, the /System/Index hierarchy has been added, GRUB2 now works and it can be installed on a disk or partition, and a few SYSLINUX update fixes have been implemented.

Also, the GoboLinux BootScripts' network settings have been deprecated in favor of NetworkManager, a number of Compile and Scripts tools have been improved, and the Installer in both the text and graphics modes has been improved.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
