Git, a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency, is now at version 1.9 RC.

The new Git 1.9.x branch continues the trend of large releases, integrating a big number of changes and fixes, and the current version is no different.

According to the developers, the HTTP transport, when talking GSS-Negotiate, uses "100 Continue" response to avoid having to rewind, various bugfixes have been implemented to remote-bzr and remote-hg, and the build procedure is aware of MirBSD.

Also, two-level configuration variable names in "branch.*" and "remote.*" now work correctly, and "git difftool" shows how many different paths there are in total, and how many of them have been shown so far.

For a complete list of changes, check out the changelog. Download Git 1.9 RC right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
