Git, a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency, is now at version 1.8.0.

Just a few days after the previous update, a new Git version is available, with a lot of updates and modifications.

Highlights of Git 1.8.0:

• A credential helper to allow access to the Gnome keyring has been added; • When "git am" sanitizes the "Subject:" line, the prefix from "Re: subject" and also from a less common "re: subject" is stripped, but the even less common "RE: subject" was left intact. This is now stripped too. • "git cherry-pick" learned the "--allow-empty-message" option to allow it to replay a commit without any log message. • Accumulated updates to "git gui" has been merged.
