The Totem movie player app of the GNOME desktop environment has been updated to version 3.16 Beta 1, as part of the recently released GNOME 3.16 Beta 1 desktop environment, bringing a number of improvements and bug fixes.

According to the changelog, Totem 3.16 Beta 1 improves missing plugins support with the GNOME Software app. Moreover, the appearance of the source icons has been modified and the intltool is now used to directly translate GSettings schema files.

Additionally, the first Beta release of the forthcoming Totem 3.16 app makes the view switcher button consistent, adds an enhanced translator comment for the subtitle-encoding components, and removes the deprecated, Python 2-based helper script.

You can download and test Totem 3.16 Beta 1 right now via Softpedia. We warn users that only the source package is available for download, which means that they will have to compile Totem to install it. We only strongly suggest not to install a Beta version of a product on a production machine where stability is essential.

As expected, the Totem 3.16 movie player application will be distributed along with the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, due for release on March 25, 2015. Please visit the raw changelog to see in detail what exactly has been changed since the last development version of Totem 3.16.
