Florian Müllner has announced the Release Candidate of Mutter, GNOME’s default window and compositing manager, a piece of software that is in charge of displaying and managing your desktop by combining OpenGL and Clutter technologies.

Mutter 3.16 RC is the latest development version, as the team prepares to unveil the final version alongside the release of the anticipated GNOME 3.16 desktop environment next Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

According to the release notes, the geometry of shaded windows has been fixed in Mutter 3.16 RC, as well as the touch interaction on window decorations. Moreover, it now takes over the handling of the cursor visibility from GNOME Settings Damon.

Best of all, Mutter is now capable of scaling window decorations on HiDPI (High Dots Per Inch) displays. The latest version also ensures pointer visibility on monitor changes, adds an option for the libinput_config_click_method function, and fixes many other small bugs.

Lastly, the Polish, Italian, Korean, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Vietnamese, Bulgarian, Slovenian, Bosnian, Catalan, and Punjabi translations have been updated in the last development release of the upcoming Mutter 3.16 software.

As usual, you can get the Mutter 3.16 Release Candidate sources right now from Softpedia and start hacking the code or give it a test on a machine that you don’t use for production purposes.
