The GNOME Project is about to release the first development version towards the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, due for release on October 23, 2015, and various package managers have started to update their projects with new features and improvements.

Evince, the default document viewer in GNOME, has been updated to version 3.17.1, a development release that introduces several new features, fixes bugs discovered in the previous version, and updates many language translations.

According to the raw changelog, Evince 3.17.1 adds search support to the browser plugin, uses GtkSearchBar instead of the custom search bar implementation, adds keyboard shortcuts to the Dual and Continuous modes, generates a pop-up window for any markup annotation that can have pop-ups associated, and adds a symbolic app icon.

Among the bugs fixed in Evince 3.17.1, we can mention an issue with the background color of the annotation pop-up windows, and a saving problem in the persistent print-settings file. The Argentinian, Catalan, Czech, Spanish, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Russian, Esperanto, Aragonese, and Icelandic translations have been updated as well.

Evince 3.17.1 will be distributed as part of the GNOME 3.17.1 desktop environment, but you can also download its source code right now from Softpedia. Please keep in mind that this is a pre-release version that contains unresolved issues.
