The GNOME developers announced a few days ago that the fifth maintenance release of the stable GNOME Settings Daemon 3.8 package, a daemon run by all GNOME sessions to provide live access to configuration settings and the changes done to them, is available for download.

GNOME Settings Daemon 3.8.5 fixes a bug that prevented files in the Trash from being purged, enables edge scrolling if two-finger scroll is unavailable, and fixes a crash that appear when the system hibernated on low power.

Moreover, the screensaver section has been modified to support the KDE variant of the interface, the printer warnings have been translated, various asynchronous functionality has been implemented, and remote CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) server can now be polled for notifications.
