A new development release of the GNOME Documents software, the default document manager and viewer tool of the GNOME desktop environment, was released a couple of days ago as part of the second Beta release of GNOME 3.16.

According to the raw changelog, GNOME Documents 3.16 Beta 2 is dubbed “Cake” and it can now load unsupported ebook file formats. The overlaid preview controls have been revised to work well when using the application on devices with touchscreen.

The second Beta version of GNOME Documents 3.16 now prevents the opening of multiple About dialogs in certain conditions, updates various language translations, and addresses the partially visible text issue in the Collections dialog.

Last but not least, the search provider has been patched to no longer set the tracker priority or spawn miners. You can download the GNOME Documents 3.16 Beta 2 sources right now via Softpedia or directly from GNOME’s FTP servers. Please note that the entire code is unstable!

If you want to test the latest development version of the forthcoming GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, due for release on March 25, 2015, you can download the GNOME Live CD based on the OpenSuSE Linux operating system.
