As part of the soon-to-be-released GNOME 3.16.2 desktop environment, we are happy to announce today the immediate availability of the GNOME Boxes 3.16.2 open-source virtualization software and virtual machine manager.

GNOME Boxes is the default VM manager for the acclaimed GNOME desktop environment, allowing users to install and run operating systems in virtual machines. It is a front-end for the well-known and influential QEMU command-line virtualization software.

GNOME Boxes 3.16.2 has been released, and according to the raw changelog, it brings some new features, such as a symbolic app icon, case-insensitive check for file extensions, and makes sure that the "Saving..." disappears when errors occur.

By default, each new virtual machine that is created in GNOME Boxes will get 2GB RAM, which will improve support for installing certain operating systems, such as Fedora 22. The autosave function will now work only for running virtual machines, and the redundant workaround for the Windows XP installer has been removed.

Last but not least, the Czech, Spanish, Hungarian, Turkish, and Simplified Chinese language translations have been updated. Download GNOME Boxes 3.16.2 right now from Softpedia. The application will be distributed as part of the GNOME 3.16.2 desktop environment in the coming days.
