Olav Vitters announced that the entire GNOME 3.8 desktop environment would be ported to the Python 3 dynamic programming language.

GNOME 3.8 is now in development phase, released under the 3.7.x versions, during which the developers will depend on Python 3.

Olav Vitters warns all GNOME developers and maintainers to bookmark the https://live.gnome.org/GnomeGoals/Python3Porting web page, which provides all the needed information for a painless Python 3 porting process.

GNOME 3.8 will be officially released on March 2013 and it will bring many nice features, such as improved GNOME Clocks, notification filtering, color tinting in GNOME Shell, integrated application search, focus-caret tracking in GNOME Shell, port GNOME Shell to use XI2, and ownCloud integration.
