GNOME 3.6 will be released on September 26th, 2012

The GNOME Project, through Frederic Peters, announced last evening, May 2nd, the immediate availability for download and testing of the first development release of the upcoming GNOME 3.6 desktop environment.

GNOME Shell 3.5.1 is a development release that updates the following packages: Clutter, dconf, Empathy, Eye of GNOME, Epiphany, Folks, Glib2, GNOME Contacts, GNOME Disk Utility, GNOME Font Viewer, GNOME Online Contacts, GNOME Themes Standard, GTK+, gvfs, Nautilus, Sushi, and Vala.

GNOME Shell 3.5.1 is part of the new GNOME 3.6 desktop upgrade, which should be released later this year. The next development release towards GNOME 3.6 will be GNOME 3.5.2 available on June 6th, 2012. The final release of GNOME 3.6 will be available on September 26th, 2012, followed by the first point release on October 17th, GNOME 3.6.1. Download GNOME 3.5.1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
