GNOME 3.12 has been released after six months of development, but the work doesn't stop here and the developers have already started to work on GNOME 3.13.

Only a day after the release of GNOME 3.12, with its immense list of improvements, the leader of the GNOME project has announced that work for the 3.13 branch has started.

“GNOME 3.12 is out. Congratulations everyone to another timely, awesome release! And with that, the hard code freeze is lifted, and git is open again for business. Keep in mind that we still want to keep UI and translations stable for 3.12.x, so branch first before you land your awesome new feature work,” said Matthias Clasen in the official mailing list.

The first version in the new 3.13 development branch won’t arrive right away, but it will be interesting to see what the developers are going to implemented next, given the fact that GNOME 3.12 is an amazing release.

The development version of GNOME always has odd numbers, so this means that 3.13 is actually a stepping stone for the next stable release, 3.14.
