Precise Puppy 5.7 Beta 1, a distribution built from Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04.2, alongside the binary DEB packages, providing full compatibility with Ubuntu and access to the vast Ubuntu package repository has been released.

Precise Puppy 5.6 Beta 1 is also based on Linux kernel 3.2.44 and doesn’t have any PAE support.

“As an experiment I have gone back to the official Ubuntu mesa and llvm DEBs, instead of the mesa PET that I had compiled without llvm dependency (which is in 5.6.4). “

“Some testers were reporting very low frames per second with 'glxgears', and I want to see if this makes any difference,” stated the developer on his blog.

Ubuntu 12.04.2 Precise Pangolin is a 5-year long-term supported release; therefore, Precise Puppy will be also supported for the amount of time.

Download Precise Puppy 5.7 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a Beta version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
