FreeBSD, an operating system for x86, ARM, IA-64, PowerPC, PC-98 and UltraSPARC architectures, is now at version 9.2 Beta 1.

The developers of FreeBSD are sure that the current version of the operating system is mature enough and it won’t need more than one Beta version for the release cycle.

The developers have warned the users that cvsup and CVS have been both deprecated, and are no longer the supported methods of updating the src/ tree.

“Due to a last minute problem found in the 9.2-BETA1 freebsd-update(8) builds, freebsd-update(8) is NOT supported for 9.2-BETA1 upgrades,” also reads the official announcement.

More details about this release can be found in the official announcement.

Download FreeBSD 9.2 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
