The KDE Project developers are on a roll and, after releasing KDE Frameworks 5 Alpha 2, now they've also made available the first Beta for KDE Applications and Development Platform 4.13.

According to the developers, all the API, dependency, and feature freezes for this branch of the KDE are already in place and they now have to focus on bug fixing. Moreover, users have been asked to assist with the development process, to ensure that all the potential problems are dealt with in due time.

“This first beta release needs a thorough testing in order to improve quality and user experience. A variety of actual users is essential to maintaining high KDE quality, because developers cannot possibly test every configuration. User assistance helps find bugs early so they can be squashed before the final release,” note the KDE developers.

The next Beta release in the 4.13 series is expected to arrive on March 12, and the final release should happen on April 16, although those dates are not set in stone.

More details about this build can be found in official announcement. Also, you can download the latest KDE Applications and Development Platform 4.13 Beta 1 sources right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
