The GNOME developers announced that Nautilus (now known as Files) is now at version 3.16 Beta 1 and is ready for download and testing.

The first Beta for the new Nautilus 3.16 is out and it looks like the developers are still finding some room for various small improvements. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but there are a few modifications that could prove rather interesting.

The developers have explained that in-app notifications are now provided when deleting items, the move to trash shortcut has been set to just the Delete key, the search is no longer hidden on small windows, the file operations dialogs UI has been improved, the list view columns have been refined, and a new modified column with the time has been added.

A complete list of changes can be found in the official changelog. You can download Files 3.16 Beta 1 (formerly known as Nautilus) right now from Softpedia. Nautilus is the default file manager for the GNOME project and it's one of the most visible components. It comes with numerous features and it's one of the packages that are modified on a constant basis. Many of the changes are done under the hood, but users should be able to spot some of the new features immediately.
