This is just a proposal and no decisions have been made

Fedora 18 (Spherical Cow) has launched without much fanfare, but the developers are already thinking about an important modification for Fedora 19.

One of the maintainers from the Fedora project, Eric Smith, has proposed the replacement of the default Gnome 3 interface with the Cinnamon desktop environment.

“This feature proposes that Fedora switch the default desktop interface from Gnome 3 to Cinnamon. Cinnamon provides a desktop interface that is more familiar to Windows and Gnome 2 users than the standard Gnome Shell interface, while being built from Gnome 3 components,” stated Smith in the proposal.

In theory, people willing to switch from the Windows platform to Fedora operating system would feel more at home on Cinnamon. However, this decision would also most certainly affect the fans of Fedora who have gotten used to the Gnome experience.

Whether this proposal will be adopted remains to be seen.
