FFmpeg, a complete solution to record, convert, and stream audio and video, has just reached version 2.2.5 and is now available for download.

FFmpeg 2.2.5 is the latest major release and this current build is only a maintenance version, featuring just a few updated packages.

“2.2.5 was released on 2014-07-15. It is the latest stable FFMpeg release from the 2.2 release branch, which was cut from master on 2014-03-01. Amongst lots of other changes, it includes all changes from ffmpeg-mt, libav master of 2014-03-01, libav 10.2 as of 2014-07-15,” reads the official announcement.

A number of packages have been updated in this release, including libavutil, libavcodec, libavformat, libavdevice, libavfilter, libswscale, libswresample, and libswresample.

FFmpeg is the leading multimedia framework able to decode, encode, transcode, mux, demux, stream, filter, and play pretty much any media that humans and machines have created.

The latest branch of FFmpeg, 2.2.x, comes with a lot of new features, such as HNM version 4 demuxer and video decoder, Live HDS muxer, a complete Voxware MetaSound decoder, WebP encoding via libwebp, VP8 in Ogg demuxing, libx265 encoder, and more.
