Smb4K is an SMB/CIFS (Windows) share browser for KDE that uses the Samba software suite to access the SMB and CIFS shares of the local network neighborhood. It's been around for some time and the devs have released a new update for it, bringing the version number up to 1.1.4.

Even if many of us would prefer not to interact with Windows installations, it usually can't be helped. Users will most likely find Windows-powered PC in their network and sometimes you really need to see those files. The application has scanning for (active) workgroups, hosts, and shares, support of the CIFS (Linux) and SMBFS (FreeBSD) file systems, mounting and unmounting of shares (using the KAuth framework), and pretty much anything that you might want.

The devs have said that they corrected a crash that occurred when users were activating "Master browsers need authentication" setting and then the activation would fail. Also, it is now possible to properly cancel the "home user" dialog, and a problem that would crash the main interface of the application has been fixed.

Check out the official announcement for a complete list of changes and bug fixes. You can download Smb4K 1.4.4 source packages right now from Softpedia. Keep in mind that you will need to compile it.
