Ubuntu for phones is getting more and more features and apps all the time, but one of the things that the platform really needs is an email client. Fortunately, some developers are working on a solution for this problem.

One of the ideas approached by the developers for an email client for Ubuntu is a frontend for Trojita, an already established application. It seems that it can be adapted to serve the needs of the Ubuntu mobile platform.

“More progress being made on the Ubuntu UI Toolkit front-end for Trojitá. It now supports sub-folders as well as mixing messages and sub-folders in a parent (click the progression arrow to see subfolders). Also, the first round of message viewing has landed, displaying the plain text version of the message. More work will be going into this to improve the content display, but it's a fantastic start,” said Ubuntu developer Michael Hall.

Keep in mind that this app is not being developed by Canonical or the Ubuntu developers, but it already looks like great progress has been made and it might become the go-to client.

It’s not a stable application and users should only try it to get a feel of it. Michael Hall made the click packages available on people.ubuntu.com/~mhall119/trojita/ for anyone who wants to try.
