Elive, a complete operating system for your computer, built on top of Debian GNU/Linux and customized to meet the needs of any user while still offering the eye-candy with minimal hardware requirements, has advanced to version 2.2.6 Beta and is available for download.

A new version of this distribution has been released and comes with pretty interesting features and changes. This OS was always a good-looking one and uses a different desktop layout than most.

“Note that this development release doesn't include yet the proprietary drivers for now (Nvidia/fglrx) but the open-source drivers should detect your hardware and configure your system without problems. Beta versions are not as optimized as the Stable ones due to debug flags and developer profiles, you can encounter errors and incomplete things,” reads the announcement.

According to the changelog, the new installer has been tested and numerous fixes have been implemented, an upgrade mode for the installer has been added, and permissions, audio, mounting media, login to graphical system, and a few other features are also now available in the installer.

The developers of Elive have also asked for the community's help in testing the operating system, so users are encouraged to provide feedback based on their experience.

You can download Elive 2.2.6 Beta right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
