DragonFly, a distribution that belongs to the same class of operating systems as other BSD-derived systems and UNIX, is now at version 3.0.1.

The most important features in the new DragonFly 3.0.1 OS is superior multiprocessor support compared to previous versions.

The present release was delayed because of an AMD CPU bug. Fixing this problem means that the giant kernel lock has been removed from much of the system and the distribution performs a lot better on multi-core systems.

Highlights of DragonFly 3.0.1:

· Major VM SMP work was done; · HAMMER performance was increased; · SMP kernel is now installed by default; · Disk Encryption is now available, with tcplay(8); · Almost 10,000 pre-built pkgsrc packages are available. To get a list of all packages, let pkg_search(1) download the summary file.
