The Debian developers have revealed the feature freeze date for Debian 8.0

The Debian project has announced that Debian 8.0, codenamed Jessie, will enter feature freeze on November 5, 2014.

That is not a mistake, it actually says 2014. Debian developers like to take their time before releasing any major version, and this has been true for past versions.

The developers also built a draft of the development schedule, for anyone interested in participating, but there will be plenty of time to decide. If we compare the dates with the Debian 7.0, then it's safe to assume that Debian 8 should arrive by the end of 2015.

“We are happy to announce that we will freeze Jessie at 23:59 UTC on the 5th of November 2014. To avoid any confusion around exactly how we will freeze, we have prepared a draft of the Jessie Freeze Policy in advance,” stated Niels Thykier on behalf of the Debian development team.

The Debian developers recently released Debian 7.0.2, the second update in the series, and there will probably be a few others.
