Nordic Games are the new owners of the Darksiders franchise and the publisher decided to release both games in the series, Darksiders and Darksiders 2, on the Linux platform.

The information hasn't been made official yet, but a Nordic Games representative said that these titles will be arriving to Linux, according to a joystiq.com report.

Nordic Games bought the franchise from THQ and now it's looking for more ways to make this investment profitable. One of those ways is to release the games on Linux, making the title available on a new market.

It's very likely that Nordic Games will choose to Steam as the platform of choice. Both Darksiders games have Steamworks implemented and they are using DirectX 9 engines. Porting both titles on Linux to work with OpenGL won't be a difficult task, although it's not yet certain if they are going to do the work in-house or if they will contract another studio to do it.

Both Darksiders titles have been developed by the same studio, Vigil Games, and they cover the inopportune arrival two of the horsemen on Earth shortly after an apocalyptic event. The first game in the series has the same gameplay mechanic as the famous God of War series on Playstation, but Darksiders 2 is more like an action RPG.
