On May 12, Henry Jensen announced the immediate availability for download of the ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux 14.1 operating system based on the well-known Slackware and Salix OS projects.

The fact of the matter is that ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux is a free/libre computer operating system for x86 (32-bit) computers with low-end hardware components. So it can run flawlessly on ancient PCs.

According to the release notes, ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux 14.1 is now powered by a Linux Kernel Libre 3.10.77 and updates most of the core packages and libraries from the upstream software repos of the Salix OS and Slackware operating systems.

"I'm happy to announce the release of ConnochaetOS 14.1," says Henry Jensen in the official release announcement of the distribution. "Compared with RC2 Icecat was replaced by Iceweasel libre because Iceweasel needs lesser resources."

The ConnochaetOS GNU/Linux 14.1 operating system is currently built around the old-school IceWM 1.3.7 window manager, and uses the libre version of the Iceweasel 31.6.0 ESR web browser, which is an entirely free version of Mozilla Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release).
