Andrea Scarpino announced today, April 8, that the Choqok instant messenger application used by default in the KDE desktop environment is about to be ported to the KDE Frameworks 5 infrastructures.

The developer reports in a short blog post that he spent the last month porting the Choqok application from Qt 4 to Qt 5, the next-generation GUI toolkit used in the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment.

"Good news for the Choqok users out there: we are now using KDE Frameworks technology," says Andrea Scarpino in the blog post. "In fact, I spent the last month porting Choqok bits from Qt 4 to Qt 5, but I also fixed minor bugs you discover when doing this kind of work."

The upcoming release of Choqok IM will also introduce better support for the Pump.io social networking service, as well as better GNU Social support, because the developer is an advocate and strong supporter of the Free Software movement.

Andrea Scarpino also informs Choqok users that the next major update of the instant messenger application will not support the Diaspora social networking service because the lack of an API (Application Programming Interface).

All users who want to test the KDE Frameworks 5 port of Choqok can do so today, but they will need to install the qoauth-qt5 and qca-qt5 package first, and then build the application from Git. Please report bugs if you find them.
