The Arch Linux-based distro might soon switch to KDE Plasma

Chakra Linux developers announced plans for switching to the recently released KDE Plasma 5.3 as the default desktop environment in their Arch Linux-based computer operating systems, replacing the KDE4 interface that is currently used in the rolling-release distribution.

All Chakra Linux users who want to test the KDE Plasma 5.3 desktop environment can do so today by adding a repository in their pacman.conf file. Developers are more than happy to know what you think about the next-generation KDE interface, and they've prepared all the details you need to know about the installation procedure.

"As you are probably aware, we have been preparing the transition from kde-workspace 4.x to Plasma 5.x for several months now. We haven't moved it to our stable repos yet, but we believe that with the 5.3 update, Plasma is ready for public testing," was stated in the forum announcement.

While KDE Plasma 5.3 is a comprehensive update when compared with Plasma 5.2 and 5.1 versions of the acclaimed desktop environment, many agree that some features are still missing and not all applications from the KDE4 suite are available, ported to KDE Frameworks 5.

Despite being based on Arch Linux, Chakra uses its own software packages and repositories. You can download the latest version of Chakra GNU/Linux right now via Softpedia or directly from the project's website.
