Update your Firefox browsers starting with January 17th

In an announcement published later last night, January 9th, Canonical decided to upgrade the default web browser of its Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) products to the latest Firefox version.

This is a very smart move from Canonical, as Ubuntu 10.10 and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS are still supported, featuring a very old Firefox browser, version 3.6, which dosen't include the web technologies and features, security enhancements and performance improvements of the new Firefox releases.

Therefore, starting with next Tuesday, January 17th, prepare your Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Ubuntu 10.10 machines for an comprehensive upgrade of your Firefox web browser, to the latest stable version. And don't worry about the add-ons, as Canonical will automatically migrate them too.

On the other hand, if you want to install the latest Firefox 10 on your Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) machines follow our in-depth tutorial.
