Version 0.8.40 of the e-book reader and management software Calibre, has been announced on February 17th, bringing some functionality changes and a couple of new drivers.

Calibre 0.8.40 brings a much needed feature for Kindle, allowing users to estimate the number of pages from a book, with the help of a plug-in.

Highlights of Calibre 0.8.40:

• An Amazon metadata download improvement has been implemented, supporting the new 'Book Description' section that Amazon publishes for some books; • A new functionality for the Kindle driver that allows using page counts stored in a custom column; • A current_library_name() function that can be used to return the name of the currently opened library in Calibre has been added; • Drivers for Xperia Neo and PocketBook A10 have been added; • Auto adding not leaving languages field blank when book has no defined language has been added.
