CUPS 1.7.4, a software used to print form applications and to convert the page descriptions produced by applications into a signal that a printer can understand, is now available for download.

This is the fourth maintenance version in the new 1.7.x branch and features a large number of changes and improvements, just like all the previous releases so far.

According to the changelog, the web interface no longer incorrectly serves symlinked files and files that are not world-readable, the CUPS headers no longer incorrectly need libdispatch for blocks support, CUPS can now be compiled when Avahi or mDNSResponder are not present, the "snmp" option now works with the network backends, the User directive in client.conf is now able to override the USER environment variable, the web interface now properly shows a "Go" button for all text-based browsers, and the MaxJobTime directive now properly supports time values.

Also, an "IPP read error" issue has been fixed, the --disable-libusb configure option has been repaired, the debug output from the DNS-SD backend is now working correctly when using Avah, and a USB quirk rule for Lexmark E230 has been added.

A complete changelog can be found in the official announcement. You can download CUPS 1.7.4 right now from Softpedia.
