Crytek said a while ago that it was working on Linux support for the famous CRYENGINE, but now it seems that it is even going for a Steam for Linux release.

When Crytek announced that it was going to provide support for the Linux platform in its CRYENGINE technology, the community immediately understood that this was a game changer for developers and the future of Linux as an entertainment platform.

Launching the CRYENGINE on Steam for Linux, along with an SDK, would be a serious move from Crytek and it would signal other companies that Linux is now the platform of choice.

The information about the Linux version is taken from the Steam database and by no means is it completely certain. The Steam Database is a record of data that describes every Steam game and subscription provided by Valve for the Steam service.

Usually, the new entries are first visible in the Steam Database before their official launch. Right now, the only entry for Linux (and all other platforms for that matter) is for the CRYENGINE EULA.

It will be very interesting to see if Crytek goes even further and ports one of its games, the latest Crysis or maybe Ryse, to Linux.
