CAELinux 2013, a distribution based on Xubuntu 12.04 64-bit that features a ton of engineering software, has been released with a lot of improvements.

CAELinux 2013 comes with a wealth of FEA, CFD, or multiphysics simulation software, but also with CAD-CAM support, 3D printing, electronics, mathematics, and programming applications. It's safe to say that this is a Linux distribution for people who really know what they are doing.

The developers have explained that CAELinux 2013 uses a customized Xfce desktop, is able to run from a DVD or USB key without any installation, and comes with Computer Aided Design & Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and simulation (CAE, FEA / CFD).

“CAELinux 2013 represents a complete rebuild of the distribution with up-to-date software for a better support of modern hardware and a significantly enhanced ease of use, and we hope that you will enjoy it,” said the developers in the official announcement.

The CAD / CAM support includes a number of very prolific applications, such as LibreCad, SagCad, PyCAM, GCAM, dxf2gcode, Cura, and much more.

Also, the electronic design and prototyping is being done with the help of Fritzing, Arduino, dxf2gcode, Fritzing, and the GEDA suite.
