Animesoft International, the developers of the Mangaka Project, an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution designed primarily for fans of Japanese anime and manga, has announced a new Alpha release of the next major version of the distro.

Mangaka Nyu Alpha comes after several years of hard work, and it is now based on the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system, featuring a beautiful and modern desktop environment in the style of elementary OS.

"With 1.4gb Mini-DVD sized 64bit architecture based on Ubuntu 14.04 containing ElementaryGTK features in a simple-fast boot, our main focus this time was creating an OS to be able to run Full-HD in a Nettop with a  beauty and very customizable desktop," reads the announcement.

Mangaka Nyu was designed to provide users with a simple, fast, clean, beautiful, and highly customizable system for running full-HD movies on a Nettop. At the moment, it has been successfully tested with Intel Atom and Nvidia Ion based Nettops.
