Firaxis has announced a new game called Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth, and it seems that it will get a Linux version as well.

The developers made the announcement for Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth during a panel at PAX East 2014. It seems that, after numerous Civilization titles, all registering great success, the next step for the franchise was to go in space.

What’s even better, Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth will not be a simple continuation of the past Civilization games, but more of a spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri, another great game that was originally released back in 1999.

The good news about the Linux launch might be shadowed by a small issue. According to a gametrailers.com report, the game will not be developed by Firaxis itself for Linux. The company that will take care of the port will be Aspyr Media, which doesn't have the best track record until now and it’s not the ideal solution.

Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth is expected to launch in the fall of 2014, which means that the launch window is pretty narrow. The developers have already been working on the game for some time, and all the platforms will get a simultaneous launch.
