AMD has finally updated their graphics driver for Linux platforms to version 15.5, a release that introduces support for the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) 12 operating system.

According to the official release notes, the AMD Catalyst 15.5 driver update fixes some insignificant screen corruption issues that occurred only when resuming from S3, due to display hotplugging.

Additionally, discrete GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) can now be turned off in Power-Saving mode when using it on particular PowerXpress AMD APU and AMD GPU platforms.

Unfortunately, a known issue remains in the AMD Catalyst 15.5 proprietary video driver, as the Vari-Bright function isn't decreasing brightness as one might expect on various configurations.

AMD Catalyst 15.5 is known to run on some of the major GNU/Linux distributions, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4, 6.5, and 7.0, SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP3 and 12, OpenSuSE 13.1, as well as Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS and 14.04 LTS.

You can download the new AMD Catalyst 15.5 proprietary graphics driver right now from the official release notes page, where you will find all the details about supported AMD GPUs and its requirements.
