4MLinux developer Zbigniew Konojacki informed Softpedia about the availability of the Beta release of his upcoming 4MLinux 22.0 operating system, but only the Core edition for now.

When it launches later this year, the 4MLinux 22.0 Core will be the basic version of the 4MLinux 22.0 operating system. The Beta version allows public testers to get an early taste of what's coming in this release and ships with some of the latest GNU/Linux technologies and open source applications.

Installed, you'll find the long-term supported Linux 4.9 kernel, Glibc (GNU C Library) 2.24, BusyBox 1.26.2, and GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6.2.0. 4MLinux 22.0 Core Beta doesn't ship with a graphical desktop environment, but it is designed as a barebone system to help you build your own 4MLinux distribution, the way you like it to be.

"This is a core system (only a few MB in size) for the 4MLinux 22 series," said Zbigniew Konojacki in the release announcement. "The system includes: the Linux kernel 4.9.13, GNU C Library 2.24, and BusyBox 1.26.2. The 4MLinux 22 series uses GNU Compiler Collection 6.2.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture."

4MLinux 22.0 Beta is available for download right now from our website as a Live ISO image that you can boot on 32-bit or 64-bit computers. However, as the developer noted above, you will only be able to use apps designed for the 32-bit (i686) hardware architecture. Also, please note that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
